What is your pathologist's expertise?

Without doubt, the diagnosis your pathologist's makes impacts your clinical decision-making. Is the diagnosis accurate? Does your patient need additional surgery because of tumor recurrence or the imaging features corroborated with the tissue diagnosis are those of pseudo-progression? What chemotherapy to offer? Does the tissue have any predictive biomarkers? What do you tell your patient in terms of tumor recurrence timeline and lifespan? Is your pathologist board certified? Do they have the training they need to handle complex brain tumor or neuropathological diagnoses? Do they have the experience? Has it happened that during multidisciplinary tumor boards, or at second reviews or opinions requested at outside institutions there was discrepancy in diagnoses? How did you tell your patient? What did they feel? What did they do? Do you feel obliged by your hospital administration to base your decisions on potentially flawed pathological or incomplete diagnoses because of departmental regulations?
